JULIANA ORTEGON

Juliana Ortegon is a Colombian-American multidisciplinary artist and Resource Manager based in Brooklyn, NY. Working across mediums, her practice explores identity, imperfection, and transformation through tactile processes and mark-making. Raised between Colombia, Illinois, and Arizona, she draws from a multicultural identity, a DIY ethos, and alternative forms of image-making. She holds a BS in Arts Management from Northern Arizona University and pursued postgraduate MFA studies at CUNY. Her work investigates presence, memory, and the tension between permanence and unraveling, creating pieces that exist in the space between resilience and dissolution.

STATEMENT

I explore the fluid nature of selfhood through material and process. Using ink and thread, I create work that embraces imperfection—layering marks, textures, and forms that suggest both repair and fragmentation. Influenced by memory, emotional landscapes, and the passage of time, my practice moves between presence and disappearance. I am drawn to tactile methods, where stitching, engraving, and layering become acts of resilience. My work exists in the in-between: a meditation on transformation, on what is held together and what is allowed to unravel.
